A simple and convenient one-pot copper-catalyzed synthesis of N-substituted enaminones I [R1 = n-Pr, 4-MeC6H4, 2-naphthyl, etc.; R2 = Me, Ph, 4-FC6H4, etc.; Ar = Ph, 2-pyridyl, 4-ClC6H4, 4-BrC6H4, 4-MeC6H4] was demonstrated from ketones, aromatic nitriles and halides. This transformation involved the aldol-type reaction and Ullmann-type cross coupling, which featured high efficient and inexpensive Cu-catalyst with broader diversification scope.
