Thus the resp. mono-(cyanobenzyl) derivatives were obtained in 95-8% yield by treating I with morpholine or pyridine or treating II with PhNH2, PhCH2NH2, cyclohexylamine, morpholine, or pyridine. II was prepared in 68% yield from 4-NCC6H4CH2Br and Ag2SO4. Reaction of I with primary amines gave iminoisoindoles, however.
