Yang, Chongqing;Jiang, Kaiyue;Zheng, Qi;Li, Xinle;Mao, Haiyan;Zhong, Wenkai;Chen, Cheng;Sun, Bing;Zheng, Haimei;Zhuang, Xiaodong;Reimer, Jeffrey A.;Liu, Yi;Zhang, Jian research published 《 Chemically stable polyarylether-based metallophthalocyanine frameworks with high carrier mobilities for capacitive energy storage》, the research content is summarized as follows. Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) with efficient charge transport and exceptional chem. stability are emerging as an import class of semiconducting materials for opto-/electronic devices and energy-related applications. However, the limited synthetic chem. to access such materials and the lack of mechanistic understanding of carrier mobility greatly hinder their practical applications. Herein, we report the synthesis of three chem. stable polyarylether-based metallophthalocyanine COFs (PAE-PcM, M = Cu, Ni, and Co) and facile in situ growth of their thin films on various substrates (i.e., SiO2/Si, ITO, quartz) under solvothermal conditions. We show that PAE-PcM COFs thin films with van der Waals layered structures exhibit p-type semiconducting properties with the intrinsic mobility up to ~19.4 cm2 V-1 s-1 and 4 orders of magnitude of increase in conductivity for PAE-PcCu film (0.2 S m-1) after iodine doping. D. functional theory calculations reveal that the carrier transport in the framework is anisotropic, with the out-of-plane hole transport along columnar stacked phthalocyanine more favorable. Furthermore, PAE-PcCo shows the redox behavior maximumly contributes ~88.5% of its capacitance performance, giving rise to a high surface area normalized capacitance of ~19 μF cm-2. Overall, this work not only offers fundamental understandings of electronic properties of polyarylether-based 2D COFs but also paves the way for their energy-related applications.

The preparation of enantiomerically pure 1,4-oxazines remains a continuous challenge in synthetic chem. because of their potential application in the total synthesis of morpholines. Herein, a one-pot asym. transfer hydrogenation/cyclization enantio-relay process catalyzed by Ru and Au bimetallic catalysts was developed. This enantio-relay process firstly allows the asym. transfer hydrogenation of alkynones to form chiral alkynols in the presence of (S,S)-mesityleneRuClTsDPEN (TsDPEN = N-(p-toluenesulfonyl)-1,2-diphenylethylenediamine) and then the chiral alkynols could be converted into 3,4-dihydro-2H-1,4-oxazines in moderate to good yields with excellent enantioselectivity retention accompanied by AuCl(PPhz3)/AgNTf2 and HCOOH. A series of sulfonamide-tethered alkynones were well tolerated in this process. Mechanistic studies indicated that the alkynols formed in the first step were initially transformed into a methylenemorpholine intermediate when AuCl(PPh3)/AgNTf2 and HCOOH were added, which can be further isomerized into chiral 3,4-dihydro-2H-1,4-oxazines with the addition of a second HCOOH. This protocol offers not only a practical method to access 3,4-dihydro-2H-1,4-oxazines from alkynones in an enantioselective version, but also enriches the arsenal of gold chem. from a mechanistic point of view.

Yang, Jianjing;Zeng, Ting;Yan, Kelu;Qin, Zonghui;Wen, Jiangwei research published 《 Direct Synthesis of Alkylthioimidazoles: One-Pot Three-Component Cross-Coupling Mediated by Paired Electrolysis》, the research content is summarized as follows. The direct synthesis of alkylthioimidazoles was initially accomplished via a one-pot three-component cross-coupling mediated by a paired electrolysis strategy using non-activated chloroalkane as the alkylating agent. This protocol provides a straightforward method for the preparation of alkylthioimidazoles by employing water as the co-solvent at room temperature without any exogenous-oxidants and metal catalysts. Inactivated primary, secondary, tertiary haloalkanes and various isothiocyanates was compatible with the established conditions to obtain the corresponding products with a moderate yield. The mechanism of this one-pot three-component cross-coupling reaction undergoes a radical process mediated by paired electrolysis.

Fluorescence imaging with high temporal and spatial resolution has emerged as one of the most promising techniques to monitor biomols. and biol. processes in living systems. Among many kinds of small mol. fluorescent dyes, 2,1,3-benzoxadiazole (BD) derivatives have been widely applied in many chem. and biol. applications due to their excellent photophys. properties. However, only a limited number of BD dyes with long emission wavelengths were reported. Herein, we have reported a new class of red-to near-IR-emitting small mol. dyes 2a-3a based on benzodioxazole scaffolds, which are named VBDfluors. To bathochromically shift both absorption and emission, the conjugation system was extended by introducing electron-withdrawing group-substituted vinyl groups at position 7 via a Knoevenagel condensation reaction. The basic photophys. properties of VBDfluors were detected and summarized. The VBDfluors display excellent photophys. properties, including emission in the red-to-NIR region, large Stokes shifts, good stability/photostability and cell permeability. The geometry of the mols. was optimized by d. functional theory (DFT) and time-dependent DFT (TDDFT) methods. Bioimaging results indicated that 2a and 3a exhibited excellent cell permeability and could be utilized for visualization of lipid droplets in living cells.

In order to prepare aromatic nitrile-based resins with improved curing reactivity, thermal and thermomech. properties, and to clarify the difference in curing activity between dicyanoimidazole and phthalonitrile groups, a novel class of autocatalytic aromatic nitrile-based resins named PNDCI which contains both dicyanoimidazole (DCI) and phthalonitrile (PN) groups were designed and synthesized. A method for evaluating the reactivity of nitrile groups using the absorption wavenumber of FTIR was proposed. PNDCI monomers have demonstrated higher activity for self-promoted curing reactions than benzimidazole-containing phthalonitrile monomers (BIPN). The introduction of DCI can change the curing pathway of PN and inhibit the formation of phthalocyanine ring which is an important cured product of PN resins. The data of TGA, DMA, etc. revealed that the cured products of PNDCIs showed outstanding thermal stability, long-term thermo-oxidative stability at high temperatures (425°C) and thermal mech. properties, which is favorable for the preparation of high temperature resistant resins.

Redox flow batteries using aqueous organic-based electrolytes are promising candidates for developing cost-effective grid-scale energy storage devices. However, a significant drawback of these batteries is the cross-mixing of active species through the membrane, which causes battery performance degradation To overcome this issue, here we report size-selective ion-exchange membranes prepared by sulfonation of a spirobifluorene-based microporous polymer and demonstrate their efficient ion sieving functions in flow batteries. The spirobifluorene unit allows control over the degree of sulfonation to optimize the transport of cations, while the microporous structure inhibits the crossover of organic mols. via mol. sieving. Furthermore, the enhanced membrane selectivity mitigates the crossover-induced capacity decay while maintaining good ionic conductivity for aqueous electrolyte solution at pH 9, where the redox-active organic mols. show long-term stability. We also prove the boosting effect of the membranes on the energy efficiency and peak power d. of the aqueous redox flow battery, which shows stable operation for about 120 h (i.e., 2100 charge-discharge cycles at 100 mA cm-2) in a laboratory-scale cell.
